A Sunday Catch Up
A few reflections on life, my birthday, and what's on my radar
It’s been a minute since I was able to sit down and write; I’ve missed connecting with you here. The past few weeks have been a mix of reflection, creation, and some much-needed rest, peppered with a tinge of existential dread (points wildly in every direction). Between teaching, recording new Be Well, Sis episodes, soaking up the last few moments in my garden as the season comes to a close, and nurturing a few behind-the-scenes projects, life has been very, very full.

If you haven’t tuned in lately, here’s a quick recap of recent podcast conversations:
The Empowered Hysterectomy with Dr. Kameelah Philips - In this episode, Dr. Kameelah Phillips, OBGYN and author of The Empowered Hysterectomy, breaks down the truth about fibroids, hysterectomies, and perimenopause- and why informed choices matter for every woman’s health.
You’ve Got a Place Here Too with Ebony LaDelle- Author Ebony LaDelle joined me to talk about her new anthology You’ve Got a Place Here Too, a collection of love stories set on HBCU campuses that remind us how affirming it is to see yourself reflected in the pages of a book.
Why Being In Your Body is Your Power (featuring Aycee Brown)- Aycee Brown brings a refreshing, grounded perspective to the world of spirituality. As a psychic medium and teacher, she uses tools like human design, numerology, and astrology not as rigid labels, but as pathways to self-trust and healing.
Stronger in Difficult Places with Dr. Zoe Brown- I was joined by therapist and author Dr. Zoe Shaw to unpack complex shame and share what it really takes to heal, reclaim your worth, and show up fully as yourself.
And because I can’t resist sharing good things, here’s what’s been on my radar lately:
A book: Less Is Liberation by Christine Platt - a beautiful reminder that simplicity can be revolutionary.
A beauty find: The YSL All Hours Precise Angles Longwear Concealer. I’m typically very loyal to my Queens, Danessa Myricks and Pat McGrath, but I couldn’t resist trying this one when Sephora had it 50% off a few months ago.
Sis, I ended up loving it so much that I went back and grabbed another shade that matches my skin perfectly. Now I use it to spot-cover dark marks (thanks, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) on days when I’m not in the mood for full foundation.
What really won me over is the size and shape of the applicator AND the amount of product you get. For context:
YSL All Hours Precise Angles Longwear Concealer: 15 mL for $40
Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Lift and Flex Hydrating Concealer : 8.4 mL for $33
Pat McGrath LABS Sublime Perfection Concealer: 4.7 mL for $34
I love my beauty icons down, but, in this economy, your girl always busts out the calculator cause I NEED to get the most bang for my buck. Will I abandon my other concealers? Absolutely not. I like to layer depending on what life ( and my skin) got going on. But moving forward, I’ll definitely be restocking them only during sales.
A wellness find (kinda sorta): For the past few years, I’ve noticed that my body doesn’t tolerate alcohol like it used to. A night out with ~3 drinks will have me nursing a hangover for at least 10 business days (not literally, but you get the point), so I’ve shifted to THC-infused mocktails for the occasional night out. I’ve tried a few, but my favorite and standout is called BLNCD. I randomly picked up the prickly pear mocktail out of sheer curiosity and was so pleasantly surprised. It tastes phenomenal and has 10 mg of THC per can, which for me- that’s ~2 servings.
That’s it for now, friend.
